Planning a wedding is a lot of work! Add a destination to the equation, and it becomes a little bit more complex! Destination weddings, if planned and executed correctly, are a great way for a couple to celebrate their love with an intimate group of close friends and family in a very cost efficient manner. Budget:
First and foremost, as with any wedding, consider your budget for the destination wedding! Vendor fees add up, and before you know it, if you’re not careful, you may exceed your allotted budget for your wedding! Destination: Where will you get married? Does the location hold sentimental value to you or do you just want to get married somewhere different and far from home? Will your guests travel to your chosen destination? Silly question- I know, considering most couples want a destination wedding because it will help them keep their guest count to a manageable size.
Knowledge and Research: Wherever your destination will be, be sure to do research on the location prior to inviting your guests. You don’t want any surprises regarding travel restrictions, etc. Also, if you’re having a destination wedding abroad consider sending your save the dates or invitations ahead of time so your guests can appropriately plan for the trip, and added costs.
Lodging Options for Guests: Plan to provide options for lodging for your guests.Consider cost-effective lodging options as guests will already be spending money to attend the festivities. Ensure the options are in close proximity to airports, and if not, provide transportation options for guests as a courtesy. Try not to go overboard with the options, but you’ll want to at least provide three unless you have one set location for all of your guests to stay. Many hotels arrange a group rate for large room blocks, which BIB highly recommends.
Wedding Website: Now, you’ve considered a destination for your wedding, and you’ll need to provide all the information regarding travel, fees, itinerary, etc, in one place for your guests! Start on your wedding website as this will be the information hub for everything related to your wedding festivities.
